Preschool/Kindergarten

Al-Rehman Academy uses the most current, academically endorsed methods to ensure that children have fun while learning the skills they need for long-term success in school & in life. At Al-Rehman Academy, your child will be actively learning throughout the day. Using the Creative Curriculum, our teachers design classroom environments with learning centers based around math and science, literature, music and movement, art, dramatic play, computers, & more. Through hands-on activities & the Respectful Infant Environment approach, children of all ages learn to explore, make choices, & understand the world around them.

Academic

Al-Rehman Academy’s integrated instruction emphasizes writing, speaking and listening in interest- and age-appropriate content. Students continue to build their vocabularies for reading and writing. They deliver oral summaries of articles and books that they have read. They use a writing process for doing their compositions. They write multiple-paragraph narrative, descriptive, and persuasive compositions that begin to use quotations or dialogue to capture their readers’ attention. Students listen to stories read aloud to them and write independently for meaning.

Language Arts & Literacy

Oral language is the foundation for literacy development. The oral language provides children with a sense of words and sentences which builds sensitivity to the sound system so that children can acquire phonological awareness & phonics. They learn to understand & use language to express their ideas, thoughts, & feelings which allows them to communicate with others. During early speech & language development, children learn skills that are important to the development of literacy (reading and writing). At Al-Rehman Academy, children are introduced to the concept. Many for the first time, learn how to put these ideas together pretty rapidly. Children typically enter their kindergarten classroom as pre-readers & leave with a solid understanding of literacy. Because of this, teachers play an important role in teaching children the many different shades of reading and writing.

Exercise

Regular exercise helps kids develop healthy habits early, which makes it easier to maintain an appropriate weight & reduces the risk of chronic diseases well into adulthood. Children who get regular exercise also sleep better & lower their risk of mental health issues such as depression. Exercise also helps young children to improve their gross motor skills, including running, kicking, throwing, & swinging. Exercise also helps young children develop a healthy self-image & positive self-esteem as they take pride in their physical accomplishments. At Al-Rehman Academy, your child has daily exercise, which makes him feel happier, helps his brain health & memory which reduces the risk of chronic disease & increase the energy levels.
